Joe Satriani will be playing a few select dates UK during October 2010. The tour will undoubtedly be promoting his 11th studio album and comes off the back of recent tours with the supergroup Chickenfoot and Experience Jimi Hendrix Tribute Tour.  Tickets will be on sale from Friday May 14th at 9am and are available from  www.ticketline.co.uk.

Joe Satriani

Joe Satriani is an American multiple nominated Grammy Award multi-instrumentalist, best known as an instrumental rock guitarist. Early in his career, Satriani worked as a guitar instructor, and some of his former students have achieved fame with their own amazing guitar skills including Kirk hammet and Steve Vai.

Satriani has been a driving force behind many musicians throughout his career and is a founder of the ever-changing touring trio, G3, as well as performing in temporary positions with other bands.

Joe’s most famous albums include 1987′s ‘Surfing With The Alien’, 1989′s ‘Flying in a Blue Dream’ and in 1992, Satriani released ‘The Extremist’, his most critically acclaimed and commercially successful album to date. Radio stations across the country were quick to pick up on ‘Summer Song’, ‘Cryin’ and ‘Friends’.

In late 1993, Satriani joined Deep Purple as a temporary replacement for departed guitarist Ritchie Blackmore during the band’s Japanese tour. The concerts were such a success that Satriani was asked to join the band permanently but he declined, having just signed a multi-album solo deal with Sony.

In 1998 Satriani recorded and released ‘Crystal Planet’, which went back to a sound more reminiscent of his late ’80s work. Planet was quickly followed up with Engines of Creation.

Interestingly, on December 4, 2008 Satriani filed a copyright infringement suit against Coldplay, claiming the Coldplay song ‘Viva la Vida’ includes “substantial original portions” of the Satriani song “If I Could Fly” from his 2004 album. The case is still ongoing at present.

Satriani is widely regarded as a highly technical rock guitarist and is often deservedly referred to as a virtuoso. He has mastered many modern guitar techniques including Legato, two-handed tapping and arpeggio tapping, volume swells, harmonics, and extreme whammy bar effects.

Satriani has endorsed Ibanez’s JS Series guitars, and Peavey’s JSX amplifier. Both lines were designed specifically as signature products for Satriani and the range includes the budget JS100 through to the high end signature JS1000, and JS1200 models.

A European tour has also been confirmed and will consist of outdoor festivals, including Montreaux, Switzerland, and Bospop, Holland, plus various intimate indoor rock shows, including the London O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on June 25.

Tickets for the London 02 Shepherd’s Bush Empire concert go on sale at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, March 27. This will be Chickenfoot’s only UK date on the European tour.

The recent press release was packed full of incites into how the band started and the members of Chickenfoot admit that the band came together almost by accident, a result of jams held at Hagar’s club, Cabo Wabo Cantina, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

“We were just having fun,” recalls Michael Anthony. “After Sammy and I left Van Halen, we’d get together with musicians, and certain people seemed to really gel. Chad came down and we got on well with him. Gradually, we started talking about doing something more serious, but we needed a guitarist. Somebody smokin’ — somebody who could take us to the Promised Land.”

“People have this idea of what this band is about, or what Sammy Hagar is about as a lyricist and a vocalist,” he says. “The thing is that we manage to get each guy to up his game in a non-confrontational way. When I play with Chickenfoot, I find myself wanting to give them more all the time. I don’t hold anything back. I think the rest of the guys feel the same way.”

The CD entitled, “Chickenfoot”, will be made available by earMUSIC in Germany on Friday, June 5 and in the U.K. on Monday. June 8. The album will be released by Best Buy in the U.S. on Sunday, June 7.

So what do you get if you cross Van Halen, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and one of the worlds best guitarists? Well, the answer is Chickenfoot! This could be one of the best lineups in recent rock history with the group consisting of Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar from Van Halen fame, Chad Smith from The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and probably my favourite guitarist of all time, Joe Satriani.

The guys are super cool and as you can see from the video above a lot of fun. You can check out some songs from Chickfoot via their myspace page and the early signs are very promising. The first track, ‘Soap on a Rope’ rocks the show with a classic bluesy rock riff from Joe that really gets you moving within a few seconds. The track quickly gathers pace and evolves into an amazing guitarfest that sees Joe on fine form. Sammy singing is as classy as ever and echoes some of his best work with Van Halen.

‘Down the Drain’ shows another distinctive side of the band with a more melodic and slower tempo that still managed to ooze cool rock charm. The guys seems to have a real chemistry together and I can’t wait to hear the album when it comes out. You just know the guys are going to seriously kick ass in the live shows and hopefully we’ll get a decent set of US and European tour dates soon.
